WUTC hosting huge concert to honor Winham, featuring Randy Steele, The New Quintet, Wayne White, and more.

After nearly four decades of shaping the sound of Chattanooga’s airwaves, WUTC’s beloved host Richard Winham is turning off the mic.

Since 1987, Winham has been a gentle yet influential force behind the mic, giving many local artists their first on-air opportunity, mentoring generations of student DJs, and helping define what public radio can sound like in the Tennessee Valley.

WUTC is inviting the community to help say thank you the best way they know how: with music.

On Sunday, June 22, from 1 to 5 p.m., the station will host the “Thank You, Richard Winham” benefit concert at Barrelhouse Ballroom.

Thank You, Richard Winham Concert

It will be a family-friendly afternoon featuring live performances from some of Chattanooga’s most celebrated folk, blues, and bluegrass acts. Expect sets from The New Quintet, Randy Steele & the High Cold Wind, and a stacked lineup of special guests including Wayne White and Username Password, Rick Rushing, Swayyvo, Jhett Black, and members of Strung Like A Horse and Call Me Spinster, to name a few.

There’s also an optional pre-show meet-and-greet (from 12 to 12:45 p.m.) where ticket holders can mingle with WUTC staff, performing artists, and Richard himself. Plus enjoy hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and a limited-edition concert poster.

Beyond honoring Winham’s legacy, the event doubles as a fundraiser to support WUTC’s mission: championing local music, arts, and cultural programming across the region.

Tickets are available now for what will be a meaningful (and musical) afternoon. And as for Richard? Ever the radio poet, he leaves us with this reflection:

“The art of living, according to the philosopher, is to find your work; thanks to you, our listeners, I have—and for that I will always be more grateful than I could express in words.”

You can grab your tickets here.
