Tuesday 5/14: Lew Card @ Barrelhouse Patio
This week’s Pickleball Project Presents features local singer-songwriter Lew Card as the headliner of the free concert series on the patio of Barrelhouse/Five Wits Brewing. Tuesday 5/14: Mammoth WVH @ The Signal
Mammoth WVH is fronted by Wolfgang Van Halen, the son of rock ‘n’ roll legend Eddie Van Halen. Wolfgang was part of Van Halen, alongside his father and uncle, from 2006 until their disbandment in 2020. Following this, Mammoth WVH became his primary focus. Wednesday 5/16: McKay, Billy!, Jaron Utt@ Yellow Racket Records
Nashville-based musicians McKay and Billy! are coming to town for a performance alongside local singer-songwriter Jaron Utt. McKay, a folk-rock quartet, released their self-titled debut album in January. Billy! delivered a remarkable performance during OurVinyl Sessions, which you can enjoy here. Wednesday 5/16: Daikaiju@ JJ’s Bohemia
You won’t forget your first Daikaiju show. The enigmatic Huntsville-based band performs while wearing Japanese kabuki masks and communicates solely through hand signals. Occasionally, they’ll even set their instruments on fire. They’ve released three albums, including Phase 3 in 2023. Thursday 5/16: Caughy @ Sluggo’s
Atlanta-based Caughy (pronounced kaw-he) hits the road for The Cosmo and Luna Tour, starting their 9-show run at Sluggo’s in Chattanooga. Caughy produces synth and drum machine-heavy songs with minimal structure and high emotional impact. Opening will be Chattanooga artists No Thank You John and Queenbrother. // Sluggo’s 8:00pm $10 at door 21+
Thursday 5/16: Gumm @ Boneyard Bar
We’ll get another opportunity to see local hardcore punk band Gumm before they head out for their second tour of year. They’ll be playing a hometown show alongside out-of-towners Leaving Time (Jacksonville, FL), Hollow Suns (Tokyo), and Squint (St. Louis). This should be a packed house. Thursday 5/16: Maggie Rose @ Barrelhouse Ballroom
Maggie Rose spent years striving to break into Nashville’s mainstream country music industry. However, it was her return to her roots on her aptly titled 2018 record, Change The Whole Thing, that enabled the Southern soul singer to discover her own voice and an audience outside of the Nashville machine. Friday 5/17: Christopher Paul Stelling @ Cherry Street Tavern
The Village Voice likened the intensity of Asheville-based singer-songwriter Christopher Paul Stelling to that of the Tallest Man on Earth and Glen Hansard. Stelling has featured on NPR’s Tiny Desk and All Songs Considered. His critically acclaimed debut album, Songs of Praise and Scorn, was recorded over five nights in an actively operating funeral home. Friday 5/17: Arcadian Wild @ Barrelhouse Ballroom
The Arcadian Wild crafts enchanting folk melodies woven with intricate harmonies and stirring lyrics, evoking a sense of wanderlust and wonder. Friday 5/17: Chattanooga Noise Night @ Stove Works
Chattanooga Noise Night, a monthly live show at the Stove Works art studio on E. 13th Street, features highly experimental sounds ranging from droning ambient to occasionally harsh noise rock. Saturday 5/18: Viv & Riley @ The Woodshop
Based in Durham, North Carolina, Viv & Riley draw from folk traditions to create melodies and craft songs that delve into adulthood in our changing world. Their songs, at times melancholic and at times darkly humorous, reflect on personal growth and the beauty of community. The released Imaginary People last fall. Saturday 5/18: Christian Newport, Jaron Utt, David Daniel Parker @ Redbud
Christian Newport, an indie-folk musician from Chattanooga, released his impressive debut EP, Sunny, last summer. Based in Nashville, singer-songwriter David Daniel Park has released three records since 2015. Sunday 5/19: Thelma and the Sleaze @ JJ’s Bohemia
After 14 years and 2,000 shows, Thelma and the Sleaze embark on their final tour across the U.S., aptly named The Victory Lap Tour. Rest assured, the band isn’t disbanding; they’re just touring less. Catch this intense and wildly fun southern rock band while they’re still on the road. Local openers include Liar Mute and Onion Milk.
