Indie folk singer-songwriter leans into indie rock sound in latest single released on July 19th.
Last summer, Christian Newport released his lovely debut EP, Sunny, a mellow, five-song indie-folk offering. The well-structured instrumentation and catchy melodies evoke a sort of folk-spun take on dreamy, bedroom pop. Along with the fuzzy textures and lightly distorted folk sounds, the release was reminiscent of Whitney’s 2016 album Light Upon the Lake.
Christan Newport’s new track “As You Are” is an expansive, upbeat indie pop jam. The song’s well-layered production leaves plenty of space on the more guitar-driven track, allowing Newport’s vocals to really shine atop one of his loudest releases so far.
