Drivin’ n’ Cryin’ headlines Riverfront Nights Free Summer Music Series this Saturday, August 3rd, at 7 PM, joined by opener The Scarlet Love Conspiracy

This week’s Riverfront Nights headliner is the iconic rock band from Atlanta, Georgia, Drivin’ n’ Cryin’. They’ll take the stage at 8pm. Kicking off the evening at 7 PM is local band The Scarlet Love Conspiracy.

Formed in 1985, Drivin’ n’ Cryin’ became a staple in Atlanta’s underground rock scene with their fusion of hard rock, alternative, acoustic country, and folk. Their debut album, Scarred But Smarter was an indie hit and received significant college radio play, setting them up for a deal with Island Records.

The band gained national attention and commercial success with their 1991 album, Fly Me Courageous. The record integrated more of their hard rock influences, earning them critical acclaim, radio play, and a gold certification.

The band released two more albums in the ’90s, Wrapped in Sky and a self-titled record, as their momentum seemed to wane. However, Drivin’ n’ Cryin’ made a strong comeback in 2009 with The Great American Bubble Factory, reaffirming their role in the Southern rock scene.

Drivin’ n’ Cryin’ has toured extensively, sharing stages with notable acts like Neil Young, R.E.M., Gov’t Mule, the Allman Brothers Band, and The Black Crowes.

Their influence and resilience were captured in the 2012 documentary Scarred But Smarter: Life n’ Times of Drivin’ n’ Cryin’, and they were inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2015.

Drivin’ n’ Cryin’s story reflects their enduring passion and creativity, making them a must-see band that has stood the test of time.
