Earth: Masters of experimental distortion live at JJ’s
Seattle’s iconic purveyors of ambient drone metal, Earth, are slated to rip the stage at JJ’s Bohemia on Tuesday, May 7th, guaranteeing an unforgettable night of experimental distortion. The band, led by Dylan Carlson with drummer Adrienne Davies, has released 15 albums since its inception in 1989.
Earth is supported on this tour by Esther Blue, a talented experimental artist from Los Angeles, who will be opening for them.
Earth’s 1993 album Earth 2 is considered one of the most influential drone metal albums of all time. One critic said the album “virtually created the drone and ambient metal sub-genres.”
Last fall Sub Pop Records commemorated the 30th anniversary of Earth’s highly regarded Earth 2 record with a special re-release along side a release of remixes called Earth 2.23 Special Lower Frequency Mix.
The band was the subject of a documentary film titled Even Hell Has Its Heroes, directed by Clyde Petersen. Earth scored an original soundtrack for the the film which was released as an album early last year. The documentary toured the festival circuit in 2023 and is set for its full release next month.
You can watch the trailer and pre-order the film here.
