The New Quintet release a reimagined take on a traditional murder ballad, ahead of their debut album Some Ya Do. Some Ya Don’t.
Chattanooga’s The New Quintet returns with their latest single, “Banks of the Ohio,” offering a fresh twist on the classic 19th-century murder ballad.
Known for their ability to breathe new life into old-time folk tunes, the band flips the script on this haunting tale—this time, it’s the woman who takes fatal action after rejecting her lover’s proposal.
With their signature harmonies and old-time instrumental finesse, they once again demonstrate their knack for reimagining traditional American music.
“Banks of the Ohio” is another step toward their highly anticipated debut album, Some Ya Do. Some Ya Don’t, due out in December of this year.
You can help the band fund that debut record by supporting their Go Fund Me.

The band’s previous single, “Mississippi John” was released in May. You can listen to that below.
