Nashville’s Mali Velasquez and NYC’s Bloomsday to play Cherry Street Tavern in Chattanooga Friday, September 13th

Nashville singer-songwriter Mali Velasquez, has been on an incredible ride since releasing her debut album I’m Green last fall. She’s taken her music across the U.S. and Europe, performing in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, France, and Belgium.

Now, Mali is gearing up for a September tour alongside Brooklyn’s indie rock band, Bloomsday. They’ll be making a stop in Chattanooga on Friday, September 13th, for a highly anticipated show at Cherry Street Tavern.

Mali Velasquez, originally from the Texas panhandle, relocated to Nashville and brought with her a fresh perspective and an original sound. Her blend of indie rock with heavy folk influences, embodies a poignant and unpolished authenticity.

Velasquez’s debut album, I’m Green, released in 2023, delves into the challenges and discoveries of young adulthood. With an unguarded approach, she explores feelings of vulnerability, indecision, and self-acceptance, touching on themes of self-discovery and personal growth. Her delicate vocals stand out against a backdrop of guitars and distorted brass.

Bloomsday

Bloomsday is the project of singer-songwriter Iris James Garrison. The latest album from the Brooklyn-based indie pop band, Heart of the Artichoke, was recorded in just ten days. It was recorded at the Hudson Valley studio owned by indie-folk duo Babehoven, who co-produced the record.

Other collaborators on the album include Henry Stoehr of Slow Pulp and Andrew Stevens of Lomelda and Hovvdy.

The album captures the warmth of life’s tender little moments and the creative strength of community. Garrison’s songwriting is both reflective and inviting, creating songs that feel like a blend of personal memories and universal experiences.
