The New Quintet Releases Single ‘Mississippi John’ and Continues Crowdfunding Push for Debut Album Some Ya Do. Some Ya Don’t.

The New Quintet, Chattanooga’s old-timey song-wranglers, have just released a new single, “Mississippi John.” The track showcases their unique talent for capturing the timeless essence of traditional folk and old-time music.

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing them perform around town, you’ll know just how fun and impressive it is to watch their harmonies and old-time jams.

The new single will be part of the band’s debut full-length record, Some Ya Do. Some Ya Don’t, set for a fall 2024 release. “Mississippi John” not only highlights their diverse influences, from ragtime to early country, but the release also serves as a reminder that the band is crowdfunding the album.

If you appreciate their music or want to support talented local musicians, now is the perfect time to contribute. They are nearly halfway there! You can support them in that fundraising push here.

The New Quintet features Cody Ray, Nicholas Edward Williams, Gordon Inman, Emma Dubose, and Jade Watts. They originally formed to help produce Williams’ album Folk Songs For Old Time’s Sake, released in 2021. The New Quintet has received praise from acclaimed musicians rooted in American musical traditions, such as David Holt, Oliver Wood, Dom Flemons, and JP Harris.

Upcoming Show: The New Quintet plays The Barking Legs Theater on Saturday, June 29 at 7:30PM with local folk-pop band Call Me Spinster. Tickets can be purchased here.
