Sunny War brings a folk-punk sound that’s earned attention nationwide—and even caught the ear of Willie Nelson, who covered her song “If It Wasn’t Broken” on his album Last Leaf on the Tree, released on November 1st.
After relocating to Chattanooga from the California punk scene, War has developed a sound that’s both gritty and soulful. Her 2023 album Anarchist Gospel earned widespread acclaim, with Pitchfork, PopMatters, and Rolling Stone all naming it among the year’s best.
