Popular local music venue rebrands and renovates with new ownership by Snapdragon Hemp
Chattanooga’s beloved music venue, The Dark Roast, is now part of the Snapdragon Hemp family. The venue will be rebranded as The Dragon’s Roast.
In a social media post, the venue announced renovations will take place over the next month. All scheduled shows will continue during this time. However, due to the ownership change, beer and wine sales are temporarily halted. A small selection of Snapdragon products will be available instead.
After renovations, The Dragon’s Roast will have normal operating hours. This means it will no longer open only for events.
The venue also announced changes to their all-ages shows to comply with state laws enforcing curfews. Shows lasting past 10 pm on weekdays and 11 pm on weekends will require attendees aged 17 and under to be with a parent or guardian.
In their announcement, the venue stated, “We understand these are a lot and sudden changes that impact a variety of people. We appreciate everyone for sticking with us and we hope to provide different and better experiences for all our attendees! We are looking forward to all the amazing things to come and know you all will be blown away!”
This acquisition marks the beginning of a fresh era for the venue, which, like many independent music venues across the country, has faced financial pressures in recent years.
In March, the local music community helped raise money to prevent the venue from shutting its doors. A GoFundMe raised $1,500, and many bands played free shows to support fundraising efforts, including a Save The Dark Roast Bene-fest with performances from 26 bands.
